01 May - To Sault Ste. Marie
We drove 800 km this first day, past Sault Ste Marie and over 700 km each day for the following few days so we haven't had a chance to set this blog up and start writing. We are choosing to use a different format than what we used for our trips last spring and fall -- a continuous Google Doc -- so we're now figuring out how to use Google Blogger.
We spent some time before this trip thinking through what would work better both in/on our vehicle/camper and on the things and food we bring -- no need to haul things that aren't used. So we think we have a more efficient and effective setup than before. We still have the challenge of remembering where this or that thing is!
Since we have rented out our house we had to get it ready for the new tenants which ended up being more work than we remembered it would be (we've done this before!). But we were happy to finally leave by 8:30 AM. and our new tenants were there within the hour and seemingly love the place.
The drive was good despite the light rain that fell most of the day. We identified an iOverlander site, Havilland Shores, along a river just off highway #17, 30 minutes drive north of Sault Ste Marie. There was one other bigger camper van there already so after looking at several sites in the immediate area we parked and set up. We were wiped and slept very quickly.
