11 May - Sechelt and Porpoise Bay
After spending the requisite few early morning hours at Starbucks, we found Sechelt Marsh in the heart of Sechelt. What a beautiful body of water which supports a variety of bird and marsh life. Those of us who were photographers in our group loved it.
An amazing family of Canada Geese -- 22 goslings!!
A skilled amphibious bird, the duck, coming in for a flawless water landing:
A highly skilled group of pigeon fliers were present showing off their impressive landing skills (on land):
For tonight we found the Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. We paid a few dollars but were thrilled with the place. We drove in during the latter part of the afternoon and found several first come first serve sites available. The trees and vegetation are amazing!
We also enjoyed the waterfront, photographing the birds on the rocky beach. There weren't a lot of these feathery beings but I took full advantage of those I saw. Here is a fun sequence of images showing a seagull taking off from the water with a clam shell in her mouth. She flies around and lands on the beach where she has some interaction with another seagull which involves lifing off and dropping the clam shell. While we sat on this beach we saw a number of seaplanes take off and land. Clearly this is big business in that part of the world because there are so many bodies of water around where these planes can take off and land so why not move yourself around with speed rather than take hours by boat or car/ferry, if you can even get to your destination by road.

Loved the pictures!
